Statistics about The Learning Shop

Matrix Accreditation

Matrix AccreditedThe Learning Shop successfully gained accreditation in April 2005. Our assessor, John Saunders wrote in his report:

The Learning Shop is led by an experienced and enthusiastic manager supported by a team of competent and committed advisers and assistants operating in a client-centred manner.

There was considerable evidence to show the effectiveness of partnership working. There is a spirit of collaboration of partner organisations that concentrates on the needs of users rather than adopting a potentially divisive competitive approach. During the assessment I heard many people describe the benefits of a "onestop shop" in which information, advice and guidance to a high professional level could be received and from which signposting and referral to partners led them to successful outcomes.

Exhibitions at The Learning Shop

The space just outside the shop can be used as a 24/7 exhibition space with Forum visitors able to browse and take away information at any time the Forum Building is open. Over 30 different learning providers and organisations have used this opportunity over the last year to promote courses and support services including dyslexia support, HE courses, work-based training and more. Below we highlight just a couple of these:

Adult Learners Week May 2006

Over 50 different local learning providers took part in a week of events in the Atrium organised by the Learning Shop. The event was opened by a performance by the local choir, Big Sky, followed by an amazing demonstration of Chi Kung.

Events at Adult Learner's WeekEvents during the week included demonstrations, displays and advice with all kinds of learning represented including massage, homeopathy, Skills for Life, arts and crafts, food and nutrition, etc.

Tuesday was devoted to Higher Education and included stands and advice from all local HE providers, a special presentation on OU courses and the chance to meet OU learners and staff.

Norfolk Adult Education provision was promoted throughout the week and co-ordinated by Steve Nunn and their exhibitions and displays were busy every day with people wanting to find out about courses over the summer and from September.

There was extensive daily coverage on Radio Norfolk highlighting the programme of events which changed daily. Learning Shop staff provided instant careers and learning makeovers and the numbers of clients using the shop increased considerably

Norwich Food Fair

The Learning Shop contributed to a careers event run in the Atrium as part of the first Norwich Food Fair in October 2005. We organised 3 careers sessions in The Learning Shop and we used local people working in environmental health.
